As the temperature drops …. multiple wakes ups are not uncommon due to your baby becoming cold.
Sudden night wakes? Could your baby be cold? 🤍
P2B has received quite a few messages this week about babies who were previously sleeping well — now waking multiple times overnight, especially between 3am–5am.
I know I sound like a broken record sometimes… but one of the first questions I ask is:
👉 Could your baby be cold?
As the seasons shift, the early hours of the morning can become much cooler. Even as adults, many of us find ourselves pulling the blanket up around 3am. The difference is — we can adjust our covers… babies can’t.
Babies also have a harder time regulating their temperature, and this skill doesn’t really mature until around 2 years of age. So as the temperature drops, extra night wakes are not uncommon.
✨ Things to consider:
• Are you still dressing baby in the same layers you used in the warmer months?
• Is the room temperature dropping in the early morning hours?
• Does your baby feel cool on their back or tummy when they wake?
A simple guideline: your baby often needs one more layer than you to stay comfortable.
P2B tip: Dress your little one for the cooler part of the night, not just bedtime. If you’re worried about overheating early in the evening, you can use a fan initially and turn it off before you go to bed.
Sometimes small seasonal changes can make a big difference to overnight sleep
