Been out & about and now have an overtired baby?

Yes, I love a routine… but life happens. 🤍

You can’t always be home for every nap — and that’s completely normal.

A very common scenario I see:
Parents have been out living life, their little one misses a sleep or only manages a quick power nap… and when they get home, settling feels impossible.

Cue an even more overtired baby — and very anxious parents.

So what should you do?

The most common reaction is to rush through bedtime because baby “needs sleep.”
But believe it or not, this is often the worst thing you can do.

✨ When a baby is overtired, they usually need a longer, slower wind-down, not a faster one.

You’ll know your little one is overtired when they seem irritable, jerky in their movements, extra teary or very unsettled. Speeding up the routine can heighten this overstimulated state instead of calming it.

🌙 Simple ways to support an overtired baby:
📕 Read an extra book
🥰 Add an extra 10 minutes of calm cuddles
🤱 If you swaddle, consider a double swaddle (if age and safety appropriate)
🌑 Make the room a little darker than usual (not necessarily pitch black)
🔊 Use white noise — or gently increase the volume if already playing

Sometimes the best thing we can do is slow everything down and help their little bodies regulate before sleep
