Your Toddlers Play Area!
Let’s talk about play spaces… less really can be more 🤍
P2B visits many homes, and play areas filled with toys like this are incredibly common — and always created by amazing parents doing their absolute best for their little ones.
When I work with families, one of the gentle conversations we often have is about simplifying the play environment. Too many toys can actually feel overwhelming for toddlers, leading them to jump quickly from one toy to the next without fully engaging or using their imagination.
✨ Research published in Infant Behaviour and Development explored this exact topic. Toddlers were given either 16 toys or just 4 toys to play with. The result? When fewer toys were available, toddlers played longer with each one — showing deeper focus, more exploration and more creative play.
There’s no “magic number” of toys needed. In fact, fewer options often allow children to slow down, engage more deeply and follow their own interests.
A simple shift can make a big difference:
• Rotate toys instead of having everything out at once
• Allow your child to gravitate toward what naturally interests them
• Focus on quality of play, not quantity of toys
Sometimes the most supportive play space is a calm, simple one — giving little minds room to explore, imagine and grow
